Could YOU be a Volunteer?

Many people find that volunteering is ......

  • A valuable contribution to people living in our communities ....
  • Fulfilling...
  • Fun ...
  • A good way of meeting people ...
  • A way to improve your skills ...

BSCTC offers volunteering opportunities in several areas.

The Community Car Scheme (Where 2 Today?) has around 130 volunteer drivers who use their own cars to provide low cost transport for about 1000 clients. Drivers are re-imbursed with a mileage rate for their journeys.

The Volunteer Telephonists undergo a period or training, after which they organise the bookings for Car Scheme clients. This Training Programme improves their skills and raises confidence. In some cases the training we provide, along with a period of volunteering, can even assist people gain employment.

The Aviemore Shopping Project is a weekly door to door shopping scheme for people in Aviemore who have a transport or mobility problem. Local Taxi operators are partners in this project and we have volunteers on hand in the supermarkets to help when required.

The Electric Scooter project provides a facility for people who are mobility impaired.  BSCTC offers this facility both in Aviemore and Glenmore.  It also provides a mobile service for people coming to the area on holiday, when a scooter is delivered to their premises.  Volunteer assistants can be required to assist with delivery of scooters or basic maintenance tasks.

The Community Transport Vehicle (which is wheelchair accessible) is available for hire to community groups. Sometimes the group will require the assistance of a volunteer driver.

Music Afternoons and other social events are held on a monthly basis for any interested party. Transport is laid on for these where required. We are always looking for volunteer musicians, singers, story/joke tellers etc who will help add to the audience’s pleasure as well as folks to help serve the tea.

BSCTC operates a full training programme for volunteers to enable them to work in a confident and professional manner. Transport related training may also be provided as required to any group or individual either on an infill or bespoke basis.

Volunteers should not make a financial loss through their volunteering. We therefore refund out of pocket expenses to our volunteers. This includes a mileage allowance for the use of your car.
